🎶 WAYBACK WEDNESDAY MUSIC 🎶Okay, THIS week we’re legitimately going back. 😂I’m digging nearly 11 years into the video vault for a concert that was anything but your typical rock show.February 12, 2016 — Alan Parsons Live Project at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.And this wasn’t just Alan Parsons and his band.They were backed by a full rock symphony, bringing an entirely different dimension to music that was practically made for an orchestra. 🎻🎸For those that might not know, Alan Parsons has an impressive pedigree and served as the assistant engineer on The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Let It Be, and engineered Pink Floyd’s, The Dark Side of the Moon. He also went on to produce albums for several other artists like Al Stewart and Ambrosia.If you’re familiar with the Alan Parsons Project, you know how layered and meticulously produced that music was. Hearing songs like “Time,” “Old and Wise,” “Silence and I,” “Sirius” and “Eye in the Sky” performed live with a symphony behind them was really special.The show included over 20 songs and lasted nearly three hours!And here’s why I love doing Wayback Wednesday Music:In 2016, I was just holding up my phone and grabbing a few videos from a great concert.Nearly 11 years later, I realize I was saving a little piece of music history.So let’s head back to Ruth Eckerd Hall in 2016.This is one of my faves…after he thanks the fans. 🎶 One Tom Petty song can sound completely different depending on who gets hold of it. Saturday night proved it.One of my favorite things about WMNF’s Tom Petty Birthday Tribute at Skipper’s was hearing 12 different local acts interpret Petty’s music in their own way.The lineup included School of Rock Tampa North, Grey and Dented, Michael Beardsley, The Bird Dogs, Melissa Grady and the Same Day Delivery Orchestra, JCT 27, Cat Ridgeway Band, Brian Jones and His Elevator Music, Burke Brothers of Have Gun Will Travel, Sunset Bridge Band, Talk To Mark and Deep Pine.Rock, Americana, folk, funk, reggae and even a little ukulele all found their way into Tom Petty’s songbook.That’s also a pretty good snapshot of what WMNF has been doing in Tampa for decades — giving local musicians, different styles of music and our community a place to come together.Here are a few more moments from Saturday night. 🎸#WMNF #WMNF885 #TomPetty #TomPettyTribute #SkippersSmokehouse #LiveMusicTampa #CommunityRadio#AskJayHeKnows#PumpkinSlayer ...
